CULTURE CITY KÜÇÜKKUYU
The “Küçükkuyu City of Culture” project, implemented by Bir Tohum Vakfi (One Seed Foundation) in partnership with Municipality of Küçükkuyu, with the support of the European Union and under the auspices of the Istanbul Culture and Arts Foundation (İKSV) through a grant from the “ORTAKLAŞA: Culture, Dialogue and Support Program,” aimed to enhance the cultural and artistic capacity of the town based on its rich tangible and intangible cultural heritage and social diversity.
The project, which prioritized ecological awareness while increasing access to culture for all segments of the local population, and which focused on festivals and celebrations that strengthen social unity between December 21st and September 23rd within the context of seasonal cyclical events; extended the town’s cultural vibrancy over seven months with year-long events themed around art, ecology, cultural heritage, and local memory, and brought dynamism to public spaces through artistic interventions.
The Teos Culture and Arts Association, through the Culture Forums and Self-Assessment Workshop it planned and implemented as part of the project on the basis of capacity building, brought together civil society organizations operating in the basin, cultural actors, and local government units, thus leading the way in creating a participatory, democratic, and sustainable cultural policy for the town.
