FORECAST TÜRKİYE /
MEMORY OF WATER

Designed by Teos Culture and Arts Association (Izmir – TR) and Invisible Dust (Scarborough – UK) in collaboration with KARANTINA collective, Selçuk Efes Municipality and Bir Tohum Foundation – Çamtepe Ecological Life Center; “Forecast Turkey: The Memory of Water” program aimed to create a common ground that will enable the sharing of useful practices between United Kingdom and Turkey, in regard of urgency of the climate change. Thus the program aimed at enhancing the understanding between artists and scientists while giving local communities and decision makers the opportunity to voice their remarks, insights and suggestions in public discussions, in the context of ecological improvements.

The program that included a series of field researches in Little Meandros basin and the ancient swamps that link Pegasus (Belevi), Barutçu, Gebekirse, Kazan lakes and the Pamucak coastline also opened up a creative space for production of artworks that addressed naval / fluvial pollution in relation to rural memory and folklore, under the curatorship of Invisible Dust founder Alice Sharp.

During the first phase, which took place between October 2024 and January 2025 Shezad Dawood (UK), academic-artists Aşkın Ercan, Pınar Boztepe and artists Sinan Kılıç, Melisa Geçalp, Sarp Keskiner and Gökçe Süvari (TR) had the opportunity to work together in Selçuk with scientists, archaeologists, historians and headmen to enrich this unity with various narratives and presentations. While Can Luca Etterlin (CH-EST) contributed to the program with his contemporary performance recorded on the Pamucak coast, eco-activist Güneşin Oya Aydemir tracked the traces of recently extinct slender-billed curlew, which was last seen in the Little Meandros basin, also mapping stork nests.

The program ended with the launch of a national symposium on 4th of June, 2025 to be held at Selçuk Efes Life Village – Seed Bank with participation of historians, archeologists, eco-activists and academicians from İzmir, İstanbul and Ankara, to be followed with the launch of the project exhibition at the Selçuk Efes Urban Memory Center, on the same date.

The production and documentation of the “Forecast Turkey: Memory of Water” project is supported by the British Council‘s “Creative Collaborations” grant program, and the production of the art book of the program is supported by the “Sustainability Fund” of SAHA Association.
